Can't get Adsense set up

Question 

I signed up for AdSense about 10 days ago and I still don't see any ads on my site nor have I received any emails from Google since creating my AdSense account.

I created 2 ads in my account and placed the AdSense code on a couple of pages on my website as instructed when I first signed up.

I just checked my AdSense account and now the 2 ads I created are gone.

I created another ad and pasted the code back into my website today but it doesn't seem like this is working.

Should it take this long to get set up?

No, they aren't gone exactly. Ads that haven't been "seen" by visitors move into idle mode after a period of 7 days. That's normal. If you go to the MyAds tab and click the +Filters in the upper right, select "idle" you'll see the ad codes you previously created. As long as they're still on your site, they can complete the review.
